It all started with the fish when the innovative shapers and board builders out there decided to revisit the past for some inspiration. In doing so they brought back some lost skills such as resin tints and hand foiled fins. The Fish Fry has been a place for these fine craftsmen to showcase their skills. We have seen some amazing boards as shapers have pushed the boundaries over the last few years. As this new look at the fish has evolved to its many forms, it has influenced other shapes and designs along the way. This has spawned a renewed interest in other board forms by this same group and a wider following.Notably the Mini Simmons, Hulls, old school Logs and Pigs. It is pleasing to note that there are an increasing number of people building their own boards as well. All of this is to be applauded and celebrated as a positive for surfing. So it is only natural that these shapers and board builders continue to share their skills with us and include these other shapes at the Fish Fry.It has truly become a melting pot of ideas for like minded people.

The Sound of dust.

An amazing film short that documents the work and philosophy of California shaper Tim Stamps. A captivating look into his world of quality and craftsmanship.

Finless

Roger Hall in New Zealand has been chipping away at one of his long held loves and that is the Hot Curl design. He has now built a number of them for himself to experiment with and loves the glide and hold that they have .The frictionless no fin feel is quite different and to a a board builder and designer such as Roger it certainly holds an intrigue for him. As you can see he has created quite a quiver for himself and has included some of his wonderful wood work in some of them. Adding significant tail block as a weight to hold the tail in the pocket where you want it.

That is quite a selection of species he has gathered for the solid tail block.
Some of Roger's thoughts " With the current interest in Finless boards that is swirling through the surfing world, I thought it would be fun to try and bring back the Hot Curl from its extinction (brought on by the invention of the fin) The Hot Curl was once the most advanced surfboard shape in the world! I find it very intriguing then, that this design has been buried under the landslide of surfboard evolution for so long.."
