It all started with the fish when the innovative shapers and board builders out there decided to revisit the past for some inspiration. In doing so they brought back some lost skills such as resin tints and hand foiled fins. The Fish Fry has been a place for these fine craftsmen to showcase their skills. We have seen some amazing boards as shapers have pushed the boundaries over the last few years. As this new look at the fish has evolved to its many forms, it has influenced other shapes and designs along the way. This has spawned a renewed interest in other board forms by this same group and a wider following.Notably the Mini Simmons, Hulls, old school Logs and Pigs. It is pleasing to note that there are an increasing number of people building their own boards as well. All of this is to be applauded and celebrated as a positive for surfing. So it is only natural that these shapers and board builders continue to share their skills with us and include these other shapes at the Fish Fry.It has truly become a melting pot of ideas for like minded people.

Fishy day at The Alley

Not a grain of sand left over the rocks after the storm. Tip toe bro.
Another great day at The Alley. The water is still warm , shorts and rashie. We had the fish out for a spin. Great shots taken by Shane.

Wild surf again this year at The Alley

The Alley and the rest of the Gold Coast were hammered on the weekend with 10m plus seas and high winds that closed the beaches . We ended up with huge seas and floods not seen since 1974. We had 365mm of rain in 24 hours (15 inches). This is the 3rd lot of floods we have had this year and we have had swell since mid March. All photos are by Craig Halstead. Quad Keel combo

Here is an interesting take on fins and placement of plugs to give a few options. This comes from the guys at Classic Malibu in Noosa.   These guys make some nice boards.

The latest issue of Surfing World.

The latest issue is a very insightful read on shaping and the directional change some shapers are moving towards. Kelly Slater has written a piece on what his thoughts are and why he is shaping his own boards. It's interesting how the fish has influenced many and the place the quad is playing. Jason Stevenson, Mark Richards, Greg Webber, Neil Purchase jnr. and where they are heading. Interesting reading cover to cover. Not another mag with a surf trip to the islands again and again. Good job guys.
Sage Joske, fish fry regular , old mal , fish and Alaia slider on wood and and why it is good.
Chris Garrett, not just a wild man with an axe to grind but a talented shaper to boot.
